Charged Particle Motion in the Radiation Belts

About the Lecture


This module can be used as part of an introductory physics lecture on the motion of charged particles in a magnetic field.  The module provides an interesting application of the Lorentz force to a phenomena that many students have heard about - the radiation belts - but may not know much about.

The zip file contains three files.  One file has 7 presentation slides for use in lecture including: a historical introduction, an explanation of the physics, a worked example, and references.  Another file contains slide notes, and the last is an instructors guide, with a worked example, homework problems with solutions, and references.
