Spectrograms: tools to study waves
About the Lecture
Undergraduates who have taken introductory physics classes covering waves (including concepts of amplitude/intensity and frequency). This material introduces the concept of spectrograms, a tool used to study wave activity in many fields – it is appropriate for any class that covers wave phenomena (e.g., experimental physics, seismology, oceanography, space plasma physics). It also introduces the concept of plasma waves, and thus is particularly appropriate for an intermediate-level electricity and magnetism or introductory plasma physics class.
Tell us why this lecture is worthwhile:
The module applies students' knowledge about waves to a unique and interesting situation. Students will also learn to interpret a different visual presentation of waves.
