Aurorae Planum

South of Gangis Chasma is the high plateau of Aurorae Planum, 3 to 3.5 km above the Mars datum and fully 5 km above the floor of Gangis Chasma (in the foreground). Aurorae Planum shows many fresh and degraded impact craters, and so its surface is much older than the landslides in Gangis Chasma. From the number of craters exposed on Aurorae Planum, its surface is dated to the upper Noachian Epoch of Mars' history.
