Here, the walls of Gangis Chasma are huge landslide scarps. Vast portions of the Aurorae Planum plateau have dropped or slumped into Gangis Chasma along these scarps. Much of the slumped material ends up as relatively solid slump blocks, and the rest as extensive, thin flows of material, called debris aprons. The walls of Gangis Chasma have been modified somewhat since the landslides fell. Now, the slopes are probably steep piles of talus, broken rock fragments. The arrow here points to talus slopes (in fan- or cone-shapes) curling around a ridge of solid rock.
