NASA Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) Launch
The LADEE mission will orbit the moon to characterize the atmosphere and lunar dust environment. Its launch is planned for the Aug.-Oct. timeframe. Children can make their own "moon dust" through the Explore activity, The Scoop on Moon Dirt (www.lpi.usra.edu/explore/LRO/activities/moon_dirt). World Space Week 2013: "Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth"
World Space Week is the largest public space event in the world, with celebrations in more than 50 nations. Its goal is "To celebrate each year at the international level the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition" -- as declared by the United Nations General Assembly. This international event commemorates the beginning of the Space Age with the launch of Sputnik 1 on Oct. 4, 1957.

NASA Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) Launch
MAVEN will provide information about the Red Planet's atmosphere, climate history and potential habitability. MAVEN will launch during a 20-day period from November to December, 2013. It will go into orbit around Mars in September 2014.
