Activities about Erosion

Stream Tables
Students observe the ability of a stream to erode, transport, and deposit materials, using sand and water. Additions and extensions--bury small rocks in the sand, or add layers of diatemacious Earth above and between sand layers.

Wind Erosion
Students observe the effects of wind on sand, using other objects as barriers.

Regolith Formation
Students compare and contrast the process of regolith formation on Earth and on the Moon, using toast, sand paper, ice, and rocks.

The Scoop on Moon Dirt
Students compare how soil forms on the Earth and Moon. They examine different soil samples and compare them to Lunar Soil Simulant. They explore how water, wind, and impactors help to make soil.
