Sustainable Trainer Engagement Program (STEP)


STEP, a NASA-funded project, will provide a select group of 6-8th grade science specialists and lead teachers in the Houston region with in-depth Earth and Space Science content, activities, and pedagogy and then assist the participants in their roles as specialists and lead teachers in presenting workshops to other teachers, over two years.

  • Attend all 15 days of professional development over the program (there will be optional evening online opportunities as well). It is understood that occasional emergencies will arise that will preclude participation.
  • Use the materials from the STEP professional development to provide guidance or to conduct my own professional development for middle school science teachers.
  • Interact with the scientist mentors and the STEP team in planning and implementing professional development for my colleagues. Access to a computer with internet will be required for some of these interactions.
  • Complete assessments provided during workshops. (Participants are also strongly encouraged to complete the additional surveys provided to evaluate the project as a whole.)
