Meeting Location and Date

The Southwest Association for Science Teacher Education (SW-ASTE) Conference will be held October 12–14, 2012, at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI), located in the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) building, 3600 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston TX 77058.

Purpose and Scope

From the rich wildlife environment of the bayou to lunar rocks and meteorites, we will traverse the worlds of science education!

SW-ASTE invites proposals from university students, classroom teachers, and college faculty for presentations at the annual SW-ASTE conference. There will be presentations about Science Teacher Education (pre-service and in-service) plus Science Education (in general).

Meeting Format

There will be several sessions, including oral and poster presentations about research or practice, hands-on presentations that engage the audience in an activity, and roundtable discussions of a general science education topic.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts may be submitted to request presentations for research (proposed, in progress, or completed) or practice (contemplated, underway, or completed):

Presentations may be in a variety of forms:

Preparation and Submission of Abstracts:

Authors are encouraged to start the submission process early so the USRA staff will have time to provide assistance in the event of technical problems. For technical assistance, contact Linda Tanner (281-486-2142) or Renée Dotson (281-486-2188), or send an e-mail message to publish@lpi.usra.edu.

Step 1:   Download the template.

Step 2:   Write the abstract using the format shown in the template.

Step 3:   Save and close the abstract file on your computer.

Step 4:   Fill out the electronic abstract submission form and upload the abstract file. Note: This form is part of the USRA Meeting Portal, which requires users to set up a personal profile to access the form (setting up a profile is quick and easy, requiring only about two or three minutes).
