LPI Premieres New Cosmic Exploration Speaker Series

October 26, 2007

A Rogue Asteroid and the Dinosaurs’ ExtinctionThe Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is announcing the premiere of its new Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at 7:30 p.m.  This event will be held in the Lecture Hall of the LPI, which is located in the USRA-Houston building at 3600 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston TX 77058.

The series will premiere with “A Rogue Asteroid and the Dinosaurs’ Extinction,” by Dr. David A. Kring. As one of the discoverers of the impact crater that is linked to the extinction of dinosaurs, Kring will share his personal search for the impact site. He will describe how the impact of the asteroid created a great environmental catastrophe that extinguished most of the life on this planet and will conclude with how this impact could have played a role in the biological evolution of our planet.

This presentation, as well as all future presentations to be featured in the Cosmic Explorations series, is free and open to the public. The presentations are geared toward inquisitive adults and will be followed by a light reception. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the speaker.
