An annual program of the American Association of School Librarians sponsored by Follett Library Resources, the National School Library Program of the Year Award honors school library programs practicing their commitment to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information, as well as exemplifying implementation of AASL's learning standards and guidelines. The Award recognizes school library programs that are fully integrated into the school's curriculum and meet the needs of the changing school and library environment. Exemplary school library programs ensure that the students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and empower learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
An award of $10,000 will be presented to up to three schools or school districts. To be eligible for the award, the school librarian must be an individual-level member of AASL. Complete application guidelines are available at the AASL Web site (http://www.ala.org/aasl/aaslawards/nslpy/nslpy). Deadline: January 1, 2013
