The catalog was compiled by Carole Albyn and Stephen Tellier at the Center for Information and Research Services of the Lunar and Planetary Institute, Houston, Texas. LPI is a nonprofit institute for research on the formation, evolution, and nature of the solar system. As part of its program of education and public service activities, the Center for Information and Research Services answers hundreds of inquiries and requests for information and materials each year. This listing represents a compilation of some of the most useful products and resources. LPI is operated by the Universities Space Research Association under contract NASW 4574 with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
The first edition of the catalog appeared in Earth in Space (SSN 1040-3124), September 1995 issue, published by the American Geophysical Union. Earth in Space, a magazine "for teachers and students of science," is published monthly from September to May.
