Web Sites of Interest
This
file contains links to Web sites that patrons of the Center for Information
and Research Services and/or the Regional Planetary Imagery Facility
might find useful.
Astrophysics
Data System [Mirror
Sites]
This system offers a way of searching astronomy and planetary science
journals and meeting reports for articles and abstracts on selected
topics.
The
National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC)
This is the deep archive for NASA planetary and lunar data in digital,
document, and photographic formats. NSSDC is responsible for the distribution
of planetary images and other data to scientists, educators, and the
general public.
Sources
of Earth and Planetary Photography (NASM/CEPS)
This guide, produced by the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies at
the National Air and Space Museum, provides information on obtaining
photographic and cartographic data products from spacecraft and aircraft
missions.
Gazetteer
of Planetary Nomenclature (USGS)
This volume contains detailed information about all the names of topographic
and albedo features on planets and satellites (and some planetary ring
and ring-gap systems) as designated by the International Astronomical
Union (IAU).
Indexes
of Maps of the Planets and Satellites (USGS)
A listing of the more than 1600 maps of planets and satellites of the
solar system produced by the U.S. Geological Survey and divisions of
the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA). The listing breaks the maps down into
categories and includes information on their availability.
Astrogeology
Research Program (USGS)
The site describes the work of the U.S. Geological Survey related to
planetary science. This includes remote sensing, mapping, planetary
geologic processes, and many other projects and products.
Astromaterials
Research and Exploration Science (JSC/NASA)
This site describes current research at the Johnson Space Center in
the areas of planetary evolution and astrobiology. It also provides
information on their facilities and educational outreach efforts.
Astromaterials
Curation (JSC/NASA)
The office of the Curator collects, documents, and distributes extraterrestrial
materials for scientific research and provides physical protection,
accountability, and records management for sample collections.
Planetary
Data System (PDS)
The PDS archives and distributes digital data from past and present
NASA planetary missions, astronomical observations, and laboratory measurements.
United
States Geological Survey (USGS)
Information available from the USGS includes maps, databases, and descriptions
and analyses of the water, energy, and mineral resources, land surface,
underlying geologic structure, natural hazards, and dynamic processes
of the Earth.
NASA
History Office [HQ/NASA]
This site features historical information on the space program and NASA
itself, from fact sheets to full text of historical works online. Also
includes links to other sources of historical information.
Exploring
the Moon [LPI/USRA]
This site offers information on the various missions involved in lunar
exploration over the years. It includes details of the science investigations,
links to related information, and more.
Earth
Observing System (EOS)
This site serves as a directory for information on the EOS Program.
It provides lists of Web sites under several different headings along
with a list of sites of related interest.
Earth
Resources Observation Systems (EROS)
Home to the National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data Archive. In
addition to handling data from several series of satellites, it also
archives more than 8 million photographs taken from airplanes.
Space
Telescope Science Institute (STSci)
This facility is responsible for operating the Hubble Space Telescope.
As part of that responsibility, it offers access to high-quality, current
information about the telescope and its discoveries.
Johnson
Space Center History Portal (JSC/NASA)
This site provides access to historical information about the space
center and about the early manned space programs such as Gemini and
Apollo.
