In addition to the natural meteoroid environment, fifty years of space exploration has resulted in a significantly polluted space environment - particularly about the regions of key scientific, military, and commercial interest (i.e. low earth orbit, geostationary ring). As a result, spacecraft must be shielded to protect them from impact by these tremendously high energy particles. My research focuses on the design and analysis of micrometeoroid and orbital debris (MMOD) shielding configurations for manned spacecraft, and the development of tools and methodologies to assess MMOD risk for future missions.
