   Lunar and Planetary Institute

The Workshop on Advances in Planetary Mapping 2007 will be held March 17, 2007, in the Lecture Hall at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) immediately following the 38th LPSC. The LPI is housed in the Center for Advanced Space Studies, 3600 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, Texas.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the workshop program will begin at 9:00 a.m. The meeting is expected to end at 5:00 p.m.

Date:  March 17, 2007
Location:  Houston, Texas

Previous workshops held at University College London in 1998 and Caltech in 1999 focused on mapping of Mars, but the many cartographic applications of data from recent missions to other bodies warrant broadening the scope of the meeting. The Planetary Mapping 2003 Workshop included abstracts on Venus, Earth's Moon, Mars, the Galilean and Saturnian satellites, and asteroid 433 Eros. The Extraterrestrial Mapping Workshop, held as part of the ISPRS Commission IV Symposium, included abstracts and posters on Mars and Comet Borrelly. The goal of this workshop, Advances in Planetary Mapping 2007, is to include contributions describing the mapping of asteroids, comets, and planetary bodies and their satellites, including results from new missions to Mars, Saturn, and Comets Wild 2 and Tempel 1.

Oral presentations will be scheduled to allow 10 minutes for speaking and 5 minutes for discussion and speaker transition.

The workshop program is now available.

Audio-visual equipment available will include an LCD projector and a PC laptop. All electronic presentations must follow workshop guidelines as detailed in the instructions for electronic presentations. Space will be available in the LPI Great Room for mounting posters and maps up to 44" × 44" in size.

A fee of $25.00 will be assessed each participant to cover various workshop services, including beverages and snacks during the session, as well as the booklet of printed abstracts. A no-host gathering at a local restaurant for further discussion, drinks, and dinner will be organized after the session.

To preregister, please return the downloadable preregistration form with your payment by February 23, 2007, or you may use the electronic preregistration form if paying by credit card. You must register and pay by February 23, 2007, to avoid a late fee of $10.00. Non-U.S. participants who state on the preregistration form that they have a currency exchange problem may pay in cash at the meeting and avoid the late fee.

Cancellations with requests for refunds will only be accepted through March 2, 2007. Please note that a $10.00 fee will be charged on all cancellations.

Participants are responsible for making their own travel and hotel accommodations. Please see the local area map and list of hotels to help you with your arrangements. Additional information about the Clear Lake area is also provided.
