MEETING LOCATION AND DATE

The annual meetings of the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG), International Lunar Conference 2008, the 10th ILEWG Conference on Exploration and Utilization, and the Space Resources Roundtable (SRR) will be combined and held October 28–31, 2008, at the Radisson Resort at the Port, in Cape Canaveral, Florida.  The meeting is planned to coincide with the October 28, 2008, launch of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO: including the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite – LCROSS) from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.  The LRO mission objectives are to advance the Vision for Space Exploration by using high-resolution mapping, including topography, and confirming the presence or absence of water ice in a permanently shadowed crater at either the Moon’s North or South Pole.

KEY POINTS:
  When:  October 28–31, 2008
  Where:  Cape Canaveral, Florida

  PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The renewed focus on the Moon and the ambitious vision for the next era of lunar exploration requires careful integration of scientific, engineering, international, and commercial interests to facilitate a sustainable program. The joint meeting brings these interests together to address key questions regarding roles of the various stakeholders in establishing a sustainable lunar exploration that will ultimately lead to humans learning to live and work off planet.  The joint conference will also build upon the topics from previous ILEWG/ ICEUM conferences discussing new results and worldwide lunar activities. The meeting report and the ILEWG declaration will capture the presentations and ensuing discussions.

  MEETING FORMAT

There will be both plenary and concurrent sessions. Concurrent sessions will comprise both invited and contributed talks.  Poster sessions will be held on the evenings of October 29 and 30, 2008.

  ABSTRACT INFORMATION

There will be a series of inspiring events for students both at the ICEUM10 and before it, with special sessions at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida, on October 26–27, 2008.  The Florida Institute of Technology is about 27 miles (a 40 minute drive) from Cape Canaveral.  The special session at Florida Institute of Technology will include tutorial sessions, young lunar explorers’ brainstorming sessions, presentations, exhibits for university students, and high school lunar projects. Lunar and sky observations from the Florida Tech Observatory will be held on October 26, 2008.  The observatory boasts the largest telescope in Florida.
