MEETING LOCATION AND DATE

The annual meetings of the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG), International Lunar Conference 2008, the ICEUM ILEWG Conference on Exploration and Utilization of the Moon, and the Space Resources Roundtable (SRR X) will be combined and held October 28–31, 2008, at the Radisson Resort at the Port, in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

KEY POINTS:
When:  October 28–31, 2008
Where:  Cape Canaveral, Florida

  PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The renewed focus on the Moon and the ambitious vision for the next era of lunar exploration requires careful integration of scientific, engineering, international, and commercial interests to facilitate a sustainable program. This joint meeting brings these interests together to address key questions regarding roles of the various stakeholders in establishing sustainable lunar exploration that will ultimately lead to humans learning to live and work off planet. The joint conference will also build upon the topics from previous ILEWG/ ICEUM conferences discussing new results and worldwide lunar activities. The meeting report and the ILEWG declaration will capture the presentations and ensuing discussions.

  MEETING FORMAT

The meeting will begin with a registration reception Monday, October 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the pavilion. Technical sessions will begin Tuesday, October 28, at 8:00 a.m. in Convention Center Salon I. Daily sessions will begin in plenary then move to concurrent sessions comprising both invited and contributed talks. Each session will focus on questions pertinent to lunar exploration and will address the three themes of this joint meeting: Sustainable Moon, International Moon, and Productive Moon. A poster session reflecting these themes will be held on the evening of October 29. A group dinner will be held immediately following the afternoon technical sessions on Thursday, October 30.

The preliminary program and abstracts are now available. Author notification letters will not be sent out, so authors will need to check the program index provided to see where their abstract has been scheduled.

  SPECIAL EVENING TECHNICAL SESSIONS

There will be two special evening technical sessions. On the evening of Monday, October 28, there will be presentations about the current lunar missions: Kaguya, Chang’e-1, Chandrayaan-1, and LRO/LCROSS.  A special session on Space Law will follow the group dinner on Thursday, October 30.

  ORAL PRESENTATIONS

Invited and contributed presentations are scheduled to allow 15 minutes for speaking and 5 minutes for questions. Audio-visual equipment available will include an LCD projector and a PC laptop. All electronic presentations must follow workshop guidelines as detailed in the instructions for electronic presentations. With authors’ consent, presentations will be made available as PDF files on the LEAG web site after the meeting.

  POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Authors must be present to discuss their posters at the poster session on Wednesday, October 29, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. Each poster display space is 44" x 44". Posters should be designed to attach to the panel with push pins, which will be provided.

Posters will remain on display throughout the workshop.

  REGISTRATION

A fee of $400.00 for professionals and $325.00 for students will be assessed each participant to cover workshop services including a welcome reception Monday evening, a poster session reception Wednesday evening, a conference dinner Thursday evening, daily morning and afternoon coffee breaks, and a program and abstract volume.  A CD-ROM of the abstracts will also be provided. Lunches will not be provided.
