A meeting on Ground-Based Geophysics on the Moon will be held January 21–22, 2010, at Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona. All sessions will be held in the “Old Main” Building on the ASU campus. |

| PURPOSE AND SCOPE | ||||||||||
Of the worlds in the solar system, the Moon is uniquely accessible for ground-based geophysical studies, including, but not limited to, active and natural source seismology, heat flow, electromagnetic methods, and gravity. Our goal is to bring together planetary and terrestrial geophysicists to review the current state of knowledge of the Moon and past geophysical studies, to discuss current plans (i.e., the International Lunar Network), and to begin planning for the future. The geophysical experiments deployed during the Apollo missions to the lunar surface remain the benchmark for ground-based studies on other planets. We will review these experiments, the resultant datasets, and what was learned about the Moon. Three decades later, NASA and its international partners are planning to land a series of autonomous geophysical stations. We will discuss these plans and how the planetary/terrestrial geophysical community might contribute to these efforts. We will also develop recommendations for future ground-based geophysical studies, both robotic and human-deployed. The format will include several keynote lectures, contributed presentations, and ample time for discussion. Attendance will be limited to approximately 50 participants. * IMPORTANT ITEM — If you are willing to serve as a discussion leader, please contact the conveners at lunargeophys@asu.edu. |

| CALL FOR ABSTRACTS | ||||||||||
Researchers appropriate to the purpose and scope of this workshop are invited to submit abstracts relevant to ground-based geophysics of the Moon. Since workshop attendance is limited, participants will be selected based on the relevancy of their abstract to the workshop objectives. First authors are limited to ONE abstract for oral or poster presentation. Print-only abstracts will not be accepted. To appear in the program, all invited or contributed abstracts must be submitted electronically to the Lunar and Planetary Institute via the electronic submission form by 5:00 p.m. U.S. Central Daylight Time on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 (see timezone map). A preliminary program will be posted by November 25. Abstracts should be limited to two pages, including graphics, tables, and references, and MUST be submitted in PDF format. Templates and detailed instructions for formatting and submitting your abstract are provided. Note: Please submit early to allow for possible technical problems or delays in transmission; access to the web form will terminate at 5:00 p.m. CDT. The program and abstracts will be available in electronic format and accessible via the meeting website by November 25, 2009. These files will be in PDF format. Authors should check the online program to find out when their abstract has been scheduled. |
