Meet the team from the Langham Creek High School

The Langham Creek High School Research Project has named their group the Litheides. They consist of a group of seven students.  Each member is highly enthusiastic about participating in the research project and has future plans to pursue a scientific career:

Shaheer Abdali – Junior, plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.
Parth Shah – Sophmore, plans to attend Medical School.
William Fields – Junior, plans to major in Aerospace Engineering.
Carolyn Ortega – Junior, plans to pursue a PhD in physics.
Nicole Murray – Junior, has an interest in pursuing Astronomy.
Dung Bui – Freshman, wants to pursue a career in Technology.
Juan Gallegos – Senior, plans to pursue a PhD in Aerospace Engineering.  He is a drummer with his own performing band and is interested in music production.

Meet the Langham Creek High School Mentor, Dr. Gerald Galgana

Dr. Gerald GalganaI am a geophysicist and engineer, and I study how the surfaces of terrestrial planets deform. I study volcanic and geologic processes that happen on large volcanoes (like Sif and Maat Montes on Venus), and the formation of star-like radiating structures. I look at how magma chambers contribute to the deformation process, and how they influence the movement of magma throughout the crust. I also study the deformation of the Earth’s lithosphere and how this process relates to the occurrence of earthquakes. In my studies I use computer-based models, combined with high-precision (GPS) observations, past earthquakes, and other geophysical data.
