The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL) has an opening for a Science Operations Engineer to work on the NASA-funded project “High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment” (HiRISE). The HiRISE instrument is flown on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and has been in operations at Mars since March 2006. HiRISE is acquiring unprecedented high resolution imaging of the Martian surface in support of science investigations of a wide range of geologic and climatic processes, and in support of future exploration, such as the Mars InSight mission. The HiRISE Operations Center, located on the main campus of the University of Arizona, acts as the headquarters for commanding HiRISE and processing returned images for analysis by scientists.
The successful candidate will become part of the HiRISE uplink operations team, which is responsible for instrument commanding. Assuming continued success of the MRO spacecraft and a functioning instrument while in orbit around Mars, the HiRISE project will likely continue through 2018 and beyond.
