ROSES-17 Amendment 9: D.7 K2 GO6 TBD Pending Revision

ROSES-17 Amendment 9: This amendment puts program element D.7, the K2 Guest Observer – Cycle 6 on hold pending a major revision to the program. For now, the due dates will appear as TBD. Proposals will be due no less than 90 days after the release of the amendment that presents final text for this program element.

K2 Cycle 6 comprises campaigns 17, 18, and 19. The fields covered by these campaigns will be announced by the end of May 2017, and they will be described at https://keplerscience.arc.nasa.gov/k2-fields.html. The remaining spacecraft fuel available for the K2 mission is uncertain, but we expect it to be depleted between campaign 17 and 19 (March-November 2018). As a result, NASA is planning a different proposal submission and selection process for K2 Cycle 6, which involves an extra initial step. In this new extra initial step, target lists and brief accompanying scientific justifications will be submitted, in the fall of 2017, to enable targets to be selected via peer review ahead of these campaigns. This new extra initial step only determines the selection of targets for campaigns 17-19. To be considered for funding, proposers will still submit Step-1 and Step-2 proposals via NSPIRES in the spring of 2018.

On or about May 16, 2017, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2017” (NNH17ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and will appear on the RSS feed at: https://science.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grant-solicitations/roses-2017/
