IODP-ICDP Expedition 364 to the Chicxulub Crater, Pardee Keynote Symposium at GSA Annual Meeting: Abstract Deadline Aug. 1

IODP-ICDP Expedition 364 to the Chicxulub Impact2017 Annual GSA Crater, Pardee Keynote Symposium, October 24, at the GSA Annual Meeting in Seattle.
Abstract Deadline: August 1, 2017

Sixty-five million years ago, the evolution of Earth was dramatically altered by the Chicxulub impact event.  This icon of the impact-mass extinction hypothesis was targeted by IODP-ICDP Expedition 364 to test models of peak-ring formation, impact-generated hydrothermal systems and habitability within those systems, and the recovery of life in the vicinity of the crater.  This Pardee Keynote Symposium will reveal first-year studies of a borehole that pierced the PETM, the Paleogene sediments that cover the crater, impact-melt bearing units on the floor of the crater, and the granitic core of a peak-ring that was uplifted ~10 km in a geologic instant.

Conveners David Kring and Philippe Claeys.
Sponsored by the LPI, GSA Planetary Geology Division, GSA Geophysics Division, ICDP, and IODP—ECORD.

Electronic submission of abstracts will open on the GSA website around the 1st of April.
