15. Apollo 16 Site (False-Color Composite)

The Apollo 16 landing site in exaggerated, “false” color rendition (see caption of slide #8 for color scheme). The preponderance of red shows this highlands site to be dominated by mature, glass-rich soils; the notable exceptions are the very fresh (i.e., very blue) North and South Ray Craters near the landing site (center right). Additional fresh material is evident in the bright rays from other craters and on the slopes of steep mountains.
