9. Copernicus Color and Topography
9. Copernicus Color and Topography

Several sites on the Moon have detailed topographic information derived from stereo photographs. In this image, topographic data obtained by the Lunar Orbiter V mission have been digitized into a digital terrain model (DTM). This DTM is overlaid by a false-color Clementine image mosaic (the color scheme is the same as that shown in slide #8). The topographic model is shown in oblique perspective view, as looking from the southeast corner of the crater toward the northwest. From such models, we can determine both the topography and composition to create a three-dimensional reconstruction of the crust of the Moon.
