6. Ascraeus Mons Flows

This slide shows a close-up view of only a portion of the mosaic shown in slide #5. The leveed lava flow at the center of the slide is comparable in overall dimensions to the 1984 lava flow on Mauna Loa in Hawaii. Like terrestrial shield volcanoes, the martian shield volcanoes appear to be the product of thousands of individual lava flows.
