28. Absolute Chronologies

If variations in the crater production rate are accounted for, lunar crater densities and isotopic ages provide an absolute chronology for the Moon that can be extrapolated to Mars. This graph shows the crater density versus absolute age relationship determined for the Moon as well as three martian absolute chronologies. Differences in the martian chronologies arise from different values assumed for the crater production rate.
