10. North Circumpolar Dunes

Shown is the northern polar cap of Mars and the large dunefield that encircles it. The circumpolar dunefield is comparable in size to the largest erg on Earth, the Rub al Khali in the Arabian Peninsula. The polar cap is approximately 1000 km across. The following four slides illustrate details of dune morphology.
