Polar laminated terrain (PLT) has been observed at both poles when exposed by the retreat of the seasonal ice cap. The layering is thought to be visible because of a varying dust/volatile composition between the layers. Polar laminated terrain is an aeolian deposit, exposed by wind erosion.
