9. Mixed-Tone Streaks

Mixed-tone streaks are formed in a more complex wind regime than are the simple bright and dark streaks. The splotch-related streaks shown here have thermal properties that indicate the deposits contain sand-sized material. The splotches are sand deposits partially trapped in craters or other topographic depressions and the streak is material deflated from the splotch. The classification scheme of wind streaks is more elaborate and detailed than presented here. See the texts in the reference list for more detailed information.
