Acheron Fossae

GRABEN
These steep-walled valleys are bounded by fault scarps formed when the crust was stretched and fractured. The valley formed when the crustal block between the two faults dropped downward several hundred meters, forming a graben. The faults have slope angles of 45 to 60 degrees.
