Three (3) letters of recommendation are required and must be submitted electronically by the application deadline. Recommenders must submit their letters through the online form. As government contractors, USRA also complies with government regulations, including but not limited to, affirmative action responsibilities as required under Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, section 4212 of the Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Act of 1974, and Veterans Employment Opportunities Act (VEOA) of 1998.
The selected candidates must qualify and meet the 12 guidelines of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive by obtaining a favorable background investigation and an approved Access Control Plan before the beginning of the internship. Requests for Foreign Nationals from Designated Countries will be forwarded to and approved by Headquarters' Office of International and Interagency Relations (OIIR) before final approval by the Center's International Visit Coordinator (IVC). The Designated Country Foreign visitor must begin the process early enough to allow sufficient time prior to the visit for pre-visit identity vetting to be conducted and completed by the center IVC. The processing of profiles in IdMAX for the vetting of Designated Country Foreign Nationals can take up to 45 days to process prior to the arrival date at the Johnson Space Center. After the vetting process for an DCFN badge, the subsequent NASA HQ approvals are required by the HQ's Security Office/Desk Officer, Export Control, and IVC.
