Virtual Public Lecture on Thursday, January 28
January 8, 2021

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) invites inquisitive adults interested in current topics in space science and exploration to join us for the fourth presentation in the 2020–2021 Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series given by Dr. Rachel L. Klima, Director of the Lunar Surface Innovation Consortium and a senior staff scientist in the Planetary Exploration Group at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. The presentation will be held virtually on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. CST.
Dr. Klima analyzes the infrared reflection of rocks and minerals to increase our understanding of the Moon, planets, and other objects in our solar system. Dr. Klima has been involved with numerous missions to bodies throughout the solar system, including the Europa Clipper.
Over the next ten years, five spacecraft will launch into the solar system to explore ten incredibly diverse objects. This armada of spacecraft will set their sights on the Moon, Europa, Titan, and seven asteroids. The 2020–2021 Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series, “To the Moon, asteroids, and beyond: The coming decade of solar system exploration,” features scientific leaders of these exciting missions, each describing how their mission will contribute to our growing, ever-changing knowledge of the solar system.
Until further notice, all presentations in the 2020–2021 series will be virtual. Information for connecting to the presentation will be available on the series’ webpage. Recordings of past presentations are available on LPI’s YouTube channel.
