The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is partnering with Best Buy's Geek Squad Academy to host a free one-day technology camp for underserved youth on November 6, 2019. The LPI will collaborate with Geek Squad Academy to incorporate planetary science content into the program's STEAM curriculum.

Geek Squad Academy provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop tech skills, build self-confidence, spark creativity, and discover how technology can benefit them in their educational pursuits and future careers. Students will engage in hands-on STEAM activities with some of the latest technology. Led by local Best Buy employees, the students will explore coding, film and music production, and 3D design.

"We are excited for this opportunity to support STEM learning here in Houston," said Christine Shupla, Education and Public Engagement Manager. "The resulting program will leverage the LPI's experience engaging audiences in planetary science, as students explore ways to use technology."

One hundred middle school students from Fondren Middle School and Yellowstone Academy are expected to attend. Students will have the opportunity to hear from lunar and planetary scientists from the LPI to learn more about current research and careers.
