LPI Announces Career Development Award for Graduate Students

The Lunar and Planetary Institute announces the 10th annual Career Development Award for U.S. and international graduate students who have submitted a first-author abstract for presentation at the 48th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC) to be held March 20-24, 2017 in The Woodlands, TX.

The awards are designed to help students cover travel expenses associated with attending LPSC. Each award is valued at $1000, or up to $1500 for foreign nationals, depending on their location. Application materials will be reviewed by a panel of lunar and planetary scientists and awards will be offered to the top applicants.

“We are delighted to offer these student travel grants” says LPI Director, Louise Prockter. “LPSC is a great opportunity for our next generation of planetary scientists to show off their research and collaborate with senior colleagues.”

The Career Development Award was created to provide supplemental travel support to graduate students attending LPSC. Since 2008, LPI has awarded 194 U.S. students and 48 students from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Russia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The application deadline for the LPI Career Development Award is Friday, January 13, 2017. You must have already submitted your abstract through the LPSC Meeting page by 5:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time on January 10, 2017. 

Applications must include:

• Letter outlining your reason for participation at LPSC and what you will contribute to the conference
• Letter of recommendation from your research advisor
• Copy of the first-author abstract
• Curriculum vitae

Please be aware that citizens of U.S. State Department Designated Countries are not eligible. Previous awardees are not eligible to apply.
