Public Lecture on Thursday, April 28

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is pleased to announce the fourth episode in the 2021–2022 Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series (CESS). In this season’s speaker series, scientific leaders will guide us through the universe in five thematic lectures focusing on NASA’s exciting new endeavor, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The premier space observatory of the future, the JWST is an engineering triumph that will reveal the early universe, lifecycles of galaxies and stars, and features of faraway worlds.

The next CESS presentation, “Investigating the Origins of Life,” will be held virtually on April 28 at 7:00 p.m. CDT. As the Webb Telescope continues with optical alignment and instrument commissioning, it is on track to release its first images and data in the summer of 2022. Once the telescope is operational, Webb’s instruments will study the atmospheres of planetary bodies in our solar system and beyond, providing clues about how these distant worlds formed and their potential to support life.

All programs in the series are currently being held virtually over Zoom and will be broadcast live on LPI’s YouTube channel.
