Public Lecture on Thursday, May 12
May 9, 2022
The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is pleased to announce the final episode in the 2021–2022 Cosmic Explorations Speaker Series (CESS). In this season’s speaker series, scientific leaders guide us through the universe in five thematic lectures focusing on NASA’s exciting new endeavor, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The premier space observatory of the future, the JWST is an engineering triumph that will reveal the early universe, lifecycles of galaxies and stars, and features of faraway worlds.
The next CESS presentation, “The Journey of the James Webb Telescope: Where we are and where we are going,” will be held virtually on May 12 at 7:00 p.m. CDT. The JWST abilities will complement NASA’s ongoing planetary missions and extend the discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope with longer wavelength coverage and greatly improved sensitivity. Join us to hear Dr. Stephanie Milam, the JWST Deputy Project Scientist for Planetary Science, as she shares an update about some of the revolutionary science planned for the first year of operations.
All programs in the series are currently being held virtually over Zoom and will be broadcast live on LPI’s YouTube channel.
