  MEETING LOCATION AND DATE

The Workshop on Early Planetary Differentiation: A Multi-Planetary and Multi-Disciplinary Perspective will be held December 8–10, 2006, at the Doubletree Hotel Sonoma in Rohnert Park, California. The hotel is located approximately 50 miles north of San Francisco.

  KEY POINTS:
Date:  December 8–10, 2006
Location:  Sonoma County, CA

  PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Planetary differentiation is a fundamental early solar system process that in part dictates the evolutionary pathway followed by a planet. The last 15 years have seen a dramatic refinement of timescales over which differentiation occurred and an increase in the sophistication of our understanding of orbital dynamics, accretion, and mechanisms of the differentiation process. These insights have been a consequence of not only significant experimental, analytical, theoretical, and computational advances, but also a broader perspective of planetary differentiation derived by contrasting planetary settings (Earth, Moon, Mars, asteroids). Traditionally, issues surrounding planetary differentiation have been addressed in planet- and discipline-specific contexts. The goal of this workshop, which has been endorsed by the Curation and Analysis Planning Team for Extraterrestrial Materials (CAPTEM), is to integrate these advances into a richer understanding of the earliest stages of planetary evolution.

  WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Technical sessions comprise invited and contributed talks and posters in a setting that will include adequate time for questions and discussion. A registration reception will be held Thursday evening, December 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oral sessions will begin on Friday, December 8, and continue through mid-day on Sunday, December 10. There will be a poster reception Friday evening, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The preliminary program with abstracts is now available.

  ORAL PRESENTATIONS

Invited presentations are scheduled to allow 20 minutes for speaking and 5 minutes for discussion. Contributed presentations are scheduled to allow 10 minutes for speaking and 5 minutes for discussion. Audio-visual equipment available will include an LCD projector and a PC laptop. All electronic presentations must follow workshop guidelines as detailed in the instructions for electronic presentations.

  POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Authors must be present to discuss their posters at the scheduled session on Friday, December 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Posters will remain on display throughout the workshop. Each poster display space is 44" × 44". Posters should be designed to attach to the panel with push pins, which will be provided.

  REGISTRATION

A fee of $275.00 ($225.00 for students) will be assessed each participant to cover workshop services including a welcome reception on Thursday evening, poster reception on Friday evening, morning and afternoon coffee breaks, and lunches on Friday and Saturday. You must preregister and prepay by November 9, 2006, to avoid a $50.00 late fee. Please return the downloadable registration form with your payment or use the electronic registration form if paying by credit card. Foreign participants who state on the registration form that they have difficulty with currency exchanges may pay in cash at the meeting (and avoid a $50.00 late fee) if they submit the form by November 9. Cancellations with requests for refunds will be accepted through November 16, 2006. A $25.00 processing fee will be charged on all cancellations.
