Macroscopic Description: René Martinez LEW87250 is a complete specimen with fusion crust covering 100% of the stone. This carbonaceous chondrite is light gray in color, fine-grained, and friable.
Thin Section (,3) Description: Brian Mason The section shows an aggregate of small (0.01-0.02 mm) olivine grains and a little opaque material (magnetite and pentlandite), with a few chondrules up to 0.6 mm across. Thick fusion crust mantles part of the section. Olivine composition is essentially uniform, Fa29; a little orthopyroxene, Fs25, was analysed. Two grains of plagioclase, An18, and An31, were analysed. The meteorite is a C4 chondrite, and closely resembles LEW87214. | ||||||||||||||||||||
