Mesosiderite

A tiny, single stone of 13.52 g was purchased in Erfoud in March 2003. Classification and mineralogy (T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU): type 2B, contains orthopyroxene fragments, Fs26.4Wo2; molar FeO/MnO = 33, with minor recrystallization at the margins; very calcic plagioclase (An96), chromite (52.8 wt% Cr2O3), troilite, silica, and metal (6.4 wt% Ni, 0.78 wt% Co). Shock level, S1; sparse oxidation. Specimens: type specimen, 2.5 g, NAU; main mass, MFarmer.
