Sample No.: ALHA79038 Location: Allan Hills Field No.: 1158 Weight (gms): 49.6 Meteorite Type: H5 Chondrite
Physical Description: Roberta Score Patches of black fusion crust appear on one surface. The rest of the stone has been weathered to a deep reddish-brown color. No unweathered material was exposed when the sample was chipped. Dimensions: 5 x 3.5 x 1 cm.
Petrographic Description: Brian Mason Chondritic structure is well developed, with chondrules ranging from 0.3-1.2 mm across. They are set in a granular matrix consisting largely of olivine and pyroxene, with minor amounts of nickel-iron and troilite. Fusion crust, up to 0.5 mm thick, rims one edge of the section. Weathering is extensive, with brown limonitic staining throughout the section. Microprobe analyses give the following compositions: olivine, Fa17; pyroxene, Fs15. The meteorite is classified as an H5 chondrite. | ||||||||||||||||||||
