Sample No.: ALHA81067 Location: Allan Hills Field No.: 1597, 1599 Weight (gms): 227.6 Meteorite Type: H5 Chondrite
Physical Description: Carol Schwarz This specimen consists of two pieces which fit together perfectly. The "exterior" surfaces have a thin patchy fusion crust while the "interior" surfaces are a dark iridescent brown. The interior exposed by chipping is totally weathered. Dimensions: 7 x 5.5 x 4 cm.
Petrographic Description: Brian Mason Chondrules are abundant, but for many of them their margins are diffuse, merging with the granular groundmass, which consists of olivine and pyroxene with minor amounts of nickel-iron and troilite. Weathering is extensive, with limonite veinlets throughout the section. Microprobe analyses give the following compositions: olivine, Fa19; orthopyroxene, Fs17. The meteorite is classified as an H5 chondrite. | ||||||||||||||||||||
