Asco
History (P.-M. Pelé, meteor-center.com) : A meteorite fell on November 22, 1805, near the village of Asco in Corsica. A stone weighing 42 g was kept in the village church until the Marquis de Drée acquired it after 1814. Then it was sold to the mineralogist Heuland in 1826. The Asco meteorite is later mentioned in the NHMV collection in 1838. It is assumed that the meteorite fell between Capu Larghia and the Punta Minuta, two mountains south of Asco. It is unclear how a small, 42 g stone could be found in such a landscape, unless whoever picked it up witnessed the stone to fall, or the initial mass was larger.
