DISCOVERY OF THE YAMATO 7305, ANTARCTICA, STONY METEORITE

Name: YAMATO 7305

Place of find: Southern Yamato Mountains, Antarctica.

71°48'S., 36° 11'E.

Date of find: December 21, 1973.

Class and type: Stone. Olivine-hypersthene chondrite (L5). Olivine Fa24. Total iron = 22.64%.

Number of individual

specimens: 1

Total weight: 900 g

Circumstances of find: Found during the 1973-1974 Japanese Antarctic Expedition on bare ice at the south-eastern end of the Yamato Mountains. The find site is in the same area in which Yamato meteorites were found in 1969.
