DISCOVERY OF THE YAMATO 7308, ANTARCTICA, STONY METEORITE Name: YAMATO 7308 Place of find: Southern Yamato Mountains, Antarctica. 71° 49'S., 36° 16'E. Date of find: December 21, 1973. Class and type: Stone. Calcium-rich achondrite, howardite. Total iron = 13.31%. Number of individual specimens: 1 Total weight: 480 g Circumstances of find: Found during the 1973-1974 Japanese Antarctic Expedition on bare ice at the south-eastern end of the Yamato Mountains. The find site is in the same area in which Yamato meteorites were found in 1969. Sources: K. Shiraishi, R. Naruse and K. Kusunoki, 1976. Collection of Yamato meteorites, Antarctica, in December 1973.
