Northwest Africa 1835 Morocco Found 2002 Achondrite (polymict eucrite) A 28.8 g stone was purchased in Rissani, Morocco in 2003. Classification and mineralogy (T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU): polymict cumulate eucrite that contains a variety of shocked clasts (shock level, S3 – S5). Low-Ca pyroxenes range from Fs42Wo3.4 to Fs52.4Wo12.2; plagioclase from An92.1-94.4; minor ilmenite, chromite, sulfides, and silica. Several cumulate pigeonites contain melt inclusions (0.024 to 0.065 mm diameter) of micron to submicron pyroxenes, plagioclase, and glass. Defocussed microbeam analyses indicate bulk compositions similar to those suggested by Treiman (1997) to represent eucrite parent magmas. Very fresh crust and interior. Specimens: 5.7 g, NAU; main mass, Oakes. | ||||||||||||||||||||
