Found 2003

Achondrite (polymict eucrite)

Several stones totaling 5009 g partly covered with fusion crust were found 2003 in Western Sahara. Classification and mineralogy (A. Greshake and M. Kurz, Berlin): a polymict breccia consisting of lithic and mineral clasts set into a fine-grained brecciated groundmass of dominantly plagioclase, Ca-pyroxene, and opaque phases; lithic clasts are basaltic fragments and more rarely impact melt clasts; large mineral fragments include plagioclase and exsolved Ca-pyroxene; plagioclase, An89.8 (range An87.5-92.3); pigeonite, Fs43.1-53.3Wo5.8-18.7; augite, Fs36.2-39.5Wo30.2-31.4; minor phases include silica and ilmenite; high degree of shock; low degree of weathering. Main mass with anonymous finder; type specimen 20.4 g plus one polished thin section MNB.
