Northwest Africa 2519 Algerian-Moroccan border Found 2004 Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4) One completely crusted stone weighing 44.5 g was purchased in Erfoud in September 2004. Classification and mineralogy (M. Bourot-Denise, MNHNP): clear chondritic texture, with large chondrules (~500 µm) and large opaque nodules of associated pentlandite and magnetite with minor pyrrhotite. Silicates are generally very fissured and blackened by fine magnetite blebs. Their composition is very homogeneous; olivine Fa31.3±0.4, 0.5 wt % NiO; pyroxene Fs27.0±1.1 Wo1.6±2.0; clinopyroxene Fs9.1 Wo46.9; plagioclase An22 to An47, 0.13 wt% NiO. Magnetite is Cr-rich, 4.3 wt% Cr2O3, 0.6 wt% NiO, 0.3 wt% TiO. Estimated shock stage S3, weathering grade W2 (sulfide altered); magnetic susceptibility 4.61 (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE, Aix en Provence). Specimens: type specimen 9.4 g and one polished mount, MNHNP; main mass with PThomas. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
