Achondrite (polymict eucrite)

A 131 g stone was purchased in Morocco in Morocco, 2003 September. Description and classification (T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU): dark to medium gray, brecciated eucrite that essentially contains medium to fine-grained cumulate eucrites. Highly shocked (S4-5): maskelynite and solid state recrystallization of plagioclase; reduced birefringence and recrystallization of pyroxenes; localized melt pockets. Dominate basalt lithology: low-Ca pyroxenes, Fs56.1-59.3Wo1.4-1.8 (Fe/Mn = 32-34.8), exsolution lamellae (Fs35.Wo28.8); augite, Fs23.5Wo43.1. Plagioclase is unusually sodic and slightly zoned, An68-70Or8.2-2.0; chromite, cr# = 81 and fe# = 98.7; low Ni metal (0.32 wt. % Ni and 0.52 wt. % Co). Lightly weathered. Specimens: 21.1 g, NAU; main mass, xHupé.
