Northwest Africa 3142 Morocco Purchased 2004 August Achondrite (eucrite) A complete, very fresh, pale grey stone (55 g) with thin black fusion crust was purchased in Rissani by A. and G. Hupé (Hupé) in 2004 August. Classification and mineralogy (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS): Monomict breccia composed of medium grained basaltic eucrite clasts with intersertal texture composed mainly of exsolved pigeonite and calcic plagioclase, with augite, orthopyroxene, troilite, ilmenite and silica polymorph. Pyroxene compositions: orthopyroxene Fs60.0Wo3.3 - Fs62.2Wo2.2, FeO/MnO = 33.0 - 33.5; clinopyroxene Fs25.9Wo44.1 - Fs26.2Wo43.8, FeO/MnO = 30.7 - 33.1. Minor granulitic-textured clasts also are present. This sample is not paired with NWA 3137, NWA 3138 or NWA 3141. Specimens: type specimen, 11.1 g, and one polished thin section, UWS; main mass, xHupé. | ||||||||||||||||||||
