Northwest Africa 3175 Northwest Africa Purchased 2002 Achondrite (polymict eucrite) A single stone of 46.8 g was purchased. Classification and mineralogy (A. Greshake and M. Kurz): a polymict breccia composed of large lithic and mineral clasts set into a fine-grained groundmass of plagioclase, augite, pigeonite with augite exsolution lamellae, and opaque phases; lithic clasts include basaltic fragments, impact melt clasts, and unusual troilite-rich fragments; large mineral fragments are dominantly plagioclase and Ca-pyroxene; exsolved augite often contains Al-Ti-chromite- and SiO2-inclusions; plagioclase, An89.9 (range An85.5-92.2); pigeonite, Fs42.7-58.8Wo7.1-11.6; augite, Fs22-48.2Wo21.2-29; minor phases include orthopyroxene, silica, troilite, and Al-Ti-chromite; low degree of shock; low degree of weathering. Main mass with anonymous finder; type specimen 11.3 g plus one polished thin section MNB. | ||||||||||||||||
