Northwest Africa 2821
Morocco Found 2003 Rumuruti chondrite (R3.8) A single stone of 384 g was purchased from Moroccan mineral and fossil dealers in 2003. It was probably found in the Zagora region of Morocco. Mineralogy and classification (J. Schlüter, Hamburg): The sample is brecciated; olivine fragments in matrix Fa39.25-0.63 (range Fa38.5-40.6, n=11), olivine in chondrules Fa37.52-5.85 (range Fa17.3-40.7, n=22), NiO in olivine, average 0.16 wt.%; orthopyroxene Fs13.79G8.52 (range Fs6.55-30.1, n=6); clinopyroxene (mean Fs10.95,En45.36,Wo43.68, n=3). Chromium spinel (mean, n=2: FeO 40.51, MgO 0.97, MnO 0.34, Al2O3 5.05, Cr2O3 44.15, TiO2 5.81). Chondrule size (n=35, 405 μm). Weathering grade: W3, shock stage: S2. Specimens: type specimen, 21.8 g, Mineralogical Museum Hamburg, the main mass is with I. Herkstroeter, Hamburg. | ||||||||||||
